Overview

Sealing the surfaces of an airplane is vital to maintaining the aerodynamics of the airplane, preventing cabin pressure loss, inhibiting corrosion, and providing leak-proof fuel tanks. This course covers preparing the surface for sealing, selecting the right sealant, applying the sealant, and how to handle the chemicals safely.

By the end of this course, you will be able to

  • Understand the purpose of sealing
  • Define a physical hazard and a health hazard in relation to working with chemicals
  • Understand some of the personal protective equipment used to minimize your exposure to chemicals
  • Describe the steps necessary to correctly apply solvents to a surface that must be cleaned
  • Recognize when a surface is properly cleaned and ready for sealing
  • List the common categories of sealants
  • Understand the function of the different sealant applications
  • Assemble a sealing gun
  • Describe proper sealant application guidelines
