Overview
Metalworking may require a variety of different cutting tools. Choosing the correct tool depends on the operation and the materials being used. This course will cover cutting tool materials, indexable tool holders, inserts, and solid cutting tools.
By the end of this course, you will be able to
- Understand the types, uses, and attributes of common cutting tool materials
- Explain how to balance speed and feed to produce the perfect cut
- Describe the different types of indexable tool holders and the machining operations that can use indexable tools
- Identify the meanings of positions in the ANSI and ISO turning tool identification system
- Describe the importance of an insert's shape
- Understand the ANSI insert identification system
- Identify sections of common solid cutting tools
- Explain the difference between straight and helical flutes and applications for each type
