Full program description

Overview

Understanding the unique terms and symbols of engineering drawings is important in understanding the design intent of the part represented on the drawing. In this course, you will learn about dimensions, tolerances, and geometric tolerances, as well as their symbols and rules.

By the end of this course, you will be able to

  • Define the terms dimension, tolerance, and geometric tolerance
  • Understand how different units of measure are represented on engineering drawings
  • Understand rules according to ASME Y14.5
  • List the geometric characteristics controlled by geometric tolerances
  • Define a datum and identify a datum feature symbol
  • Understand the tolerance zone created by a form geometric tolerance
  • Define a tolerance zone for a profile of a line and surface
  • Define the tolerance zones for the perpendicularity, angularity, and parallelism of a plane or axis
  • Understand the difference between circular runout and total runout tolerances
  • List the three geometric tolerances for location
