Full program description
Overview
Most electric motors are powered by direct current, single-phase alternating current, or three-phase alternating current. Each power source has its advantages in different applications. In this course, you will learn about the types and components of a DC motor, the types of single-phase AC motors, and you will understand how a three-phase AC motor operates.
By the end of this course, you will be able to
- List types and common parts of DC motors
- Define series, shunt, and compound connected wound motors
- List types of single-phase AC motors
- Define split-phase, capacitor start, and capacitor run motors
- Understand how to connect a three-phase motor with a wye configuration
- Understand how to connect a three-phase motor with a delta configuration
